New trailer releases and first looks
Lionsgate has released the full trailer for Day Drinker, a supernatural revenge thriller starring Johnny Depp, Madelyn Cline and Penélope Cruz. Depp plays a mysterious guest whose arrival on a private yacht brings gunfire, violence and a possible ghost story into Cline’s character’s life. The film is scheduled to reach cinemas on 26 March 2027.
Prime Video has also unveiled the trailer for Madden, its upcoming sports biopic starring Nicolas Cage as legendary coach and broadcaster John Madden, with Christian Bale playing Raiders owner Al Davis. Both actors have undergone striking physical transformations for the roles. The film follows Madden’s journey from NFL coach to the name behind one of the world’s biggest sports video game franchises. It opens in selected cinemas on 11 November before streaming on Prime Video from 18 November.
MGM+ has released the first trailer for its six-part Treasure Island miniseries. David Oyelowo plays Long John Silver, while Hayley Atwell stars as Bess Hawkins in this darker, action-focused version of Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic adventure. The series launches on MGM+ in the US on 11 October, followed by Paramount+ in the UK and Ireland on 12 October.
Horror fans have a new trailer to watch too. Shudder’s Hallowarrior, starring Milly Shapiro, follows Pumpkin, a young survivor living in a plague-ravaged wasteland. Her Halloween routine is interrupted by a gang of raiders, forcing her to defend herself with improvised weapons, quick thinking and plenty of spooky creativity. The film arrives on Shudder on 16 October.
Neon has released the official trailer for Paper Tiger, James Gray’s gritty crime thriller starring Adam Driver, Scarlett Johansson and Miles Teller. Set in 1980s New York, the film follows brothers whose business ambitions attract the attention of the Russian mafia, putting their family in danger. It is expected to be one of the season’s major awards contenders, beginning its US theatrical rollout in November.
Netflix has shared the Season 3 trailer for Nobody Wants This. Noah and Joanne are now living together, marking a major step forward for their relationship. The new season looks at the reality of domestic life, family pressure and Joanne’s attempt to understand Noah’s world more closely. Season 3 arrives on Netflix on 22 October.
Hulu’s Reasonable Doubt is also returning with a tense new trailer. Season 4 begins after a brutal attack leaves Jax’s family and The Stewart Firm facing a serious crisis. With the firm’s future in doubt and a high-profile client at the centre of a media storm, the new season promises legal pressure, personal danger and difficult choices. The first three episodes arrive on Hulu on 6 October, with weekly episodes following.
Finally, Apple TV+ has offered a first look at Tom Hiddleston in Tenzing. Hiddleston plays Edmund Hillary in the historical adventure about Tenzing Norgay and Hillary’s first successful ascent of Mount Everest. Genden Phuntsok stars as Tenzing, with Willem Dafoe and Caitríona Balfe also featured. The film opens in selected cinemas on 9 October and streams globally on Apple TV+ from 16 October.
Casting news and greenlights
Disney+ has greenlit a new animated Darkwing Duck series, bringing the classic character back with a new voice cast. Mark Hamill will voice Drake Mallard and Darkwing Duck, with Seth Rogen as Launchpad McQuack, Lizzy Caplan as Gosalyn Mallard and Lilimar Hernandez as a new character called Duckie. The story places Darkwing in an alternate reality where nobody knows who he is, giving him a fresh challenge as he rebuilds his crime-fighting reputation.
Prime Video’s NASA limited series The Challenger has added six more cast members. William Fichtner, Kevin Carroll, Eric Lange, Adelaide Clemens, Louisa Jacobson and Hunter Burke join Kristen Stewart in the drama. Stewart plays astronaut Sally Ride, while the story explores NASA’s 1978 astronaut class, the events leading up to the Challenger disaster and the investigation that followed. No release date has been announced yet.
Noma Dumezweni has joined Apple TV+ action thriller Disavowed as a series regular. The show stars James Marsden as a disgraced CIA case officer who goes rogue while pursuing a dangerous assassin and a $15 million bounty. Dumezweni joins an ensemble that already includes Norman Reedus, Sylvia Hoeks and Bokeem Woodbine.
Hulu has added Diane Lane to its limited thriller Victoria, joining Li Jun Li. The series is set among San Francisco’s wealthy elite and follows a talented con artist caught between luxury, power and a dangerous killer who knows her secrets.
Netflix has announced the celebrity cast for Million Dollar Secret Season 3. The new line-up includes Braun Strowman, David Arquette, Adam Rippon, Bridget Everett, Chris Redd, Christine Quinn and Melora Hardin. The celebrity edition is expected to arrive in 2027.
There is also good news for Law & Order fans. Christopher Meloni is officially returning as Elliot Stabler in Law & Order: SVU after the cancellation of Organized Crime. His return is expected to be part of Season 28 and is linked to the show’s milestone 600th episode.
AMC’s Kill Jackie, starring Catherine Zeta-Jones, is nearly here. The eight-part revenge thriller premieres on AMC+ on 2 October and has been described as John Wick meets Killing Eve. Zeta-Jones plays a former criminal whose quiet life as an art dealer is disrupted when a team of assassins comes after her.

Releases and streaming picks
Russell Crowe returns to Netflix this week in Unabomber, which releases globally on 25 September. The crime drama stars Jacob Tremblay as Ted Kaczynski, with Crowe playing psychologist Henry Murray and Shailene Woodley appearing as FBI agent Joanne Miller.
A24’s Backrooms also makes its streaming debut on HBO Max on 25 September in the US. The horror film, directed by Kane Parsons, became A24’s highest-grossing movie and now brings its unsettling, impossible corridors to home viewing.
Dakota Johnson thriller Verity begins its global cinematic rollout on 30 September. The film, based on Colleen Hoover’s novel, expands into further territories during the following days, including the UK and US on 2 October.
For younger Marvel fans, Marvel’s Spidey and the Avengers: Halloween Team-Up! arrives on Disney+ on 25 September after its Disney Jr. premiere. The seasonal special brings Spider-Man together with the Avengers for a Halloween-themed adventure.

Box office
The weekend of 25–27 September is shaping up to be a close one.
The Avengers: Endgame: Encore re-release is projected to battle Resident Evil for the top spot. Both films are tracking in the $21–30 million range, with Endgame: Encore currently expected to have a slight advantage. If it reaches the higher end of forecasts, the re-release could set a new record for the biggest opening weekend by a re-released film.
Resident Evil is entering its second weekend after a strong opening, so the horror reboot still has a serious chance of holding first place. The race between the two titles is expected to be close.
Three new wide releases are also entering the market. Heart of the Beast, a survival drama starring Brad Pitt, is aiming for a solid debut. A24’s Primetime, led by Robert Pattinson, brings a biographical drama into the mix, while DreamWorks Animation’s Forgotten Island targets family audiences. All three are projected to land below the top two films, with forecasts broadly placing them in the $15–20 million range.
Long Day’s Journey Into Night is opening in limited release and is expected to play mainly to specialist and awards-focused audiences.

Nani’s Telugu film The Paradise has delivered a career-best opening day in India. The film earned an estimated ₹54.90 crore gross in India, including paid previews, with an India net of around ₹46.25 crore.
The result surpasses Nani’s previous best opening and shows the continued strength of Telugu cinema both in India and overseas. Early worldwide estimates put the film’s opening day gross at approximately ₹74.90 crore, making it one of the biggest international movie stories of the week.
