Weekly Movie & TV Roundup: The Screen Scene (March 27, 2026)
Welcome back to The Screen Scene, your weekly deep dive into everything hitting the big screen and your favorite streaming apps. It’s Friday, March 27, 2026, and if you aren’t already planning your weekend watch party, you’re about to be.
This week has been absolute chaos in the best way possible. We’ve got Ryan Gosling heading back into the stars, some seriously creepy high-rise horror, and a dose of nostalgia that’ll make you feel old, but in a cool, "I remember when that came out" kind of way. Whether you’re a die-hard cinema-goer or a "stay in my pajamas and binge-watch" type of person, there’s something for everyone.
Ryan Gosling Goes Interstellar in 'Project Hail Mary'
First up, let’s talk about the man, the myth, the legend: Ryan Gosling. After a few years of dominated pop culture (we're still not over the Ken-ergy, let’s be honest), Gosling is taking a sharp turn into high-concept sci-fi with Project Hail Mary.
Based on the best-selling novel by Andy Weir (the guy who wrote The Martian), this isn’t just your average "lost in space" flick. Gosling plays Ryland Grace, a science teacher who wakes up on a spaceship with absolutely no memory of who he is or how he got there. The catch? He’s the only survivor on a mission that is supposed to save humanity from an extinction-level event.
The buzz around this one is massive. Early reviews are calling it "The Martian on steroids," and honestly, seeing Ryan Gosling talk to himself in a spaceship for two hours sounds like peak cinema to us. If you haven’t caught it in IMAX yet, this is the weekend to do it. The visuals of deep space are supposedly mind-blowing, and the mystery of how Ryland recovers his memory keeps the tension cranked up to eleven.

Horror, Comedy, and Housekeeping: 'They Will Kill You'
If space is too quiet for you, maybe a New York high-rise is more your speed? They Will Kill You hit theaters today, and it’s already the talk of social media. Starring the incredible Zazie Beetz, this movie is a wild mix of horror and dark comedy.
Zazie plays a woman who lands what seems like a dream housekeeping job in a fancy NYC apartment building. But, as these things usually go, things aren't what they seem. People are disappearing, the neighbors are acting incredibly strange, and there’s a lurking sense of dread that something, or someone, is watching every move.
The cast is stacked, too. We’ve got Tom Felton (yes, Draco Malfoy himself) and the legendary Heather Graham. It’s got that gritty, tense vibe of Barbarian mixed with a bit of satiric wit. If you like your scares with a side of "wait, did that really just happen?", this is your Friday night sorted.
The Return of the Game: 'Ready or Not 2'
Speaking of horror-comedies, Samara Weaving is back! Ready or Not 2: Here I Come is officially here. The first film was a sleeper hit that turned into a cult classic, and the sequel looks even crazier.
We won't give away too many spoilers if you haven't seen the first one (go watch it now if you haven't!), but let's just say the "Le Domas" family traditions are far from over. It’s fast-paced, bloody, and surprisingly funny. It’s the perfect movie to watch with a group of friends who love a good "final girl" trope.
Nostalgia Corner: 25 Years of Mummies and 40 Years of Brotherhood
Is it just us, or is time moving way too fast? This week marks some massive anniversaries for two iconic films that basically defined different generations.
First, The Mummy Returns is celebrating its 25th anniversary. Can we just take a second to appreciate the 2001 peak aesthetic? Brendan Fraser, Rachel Weisz, and the debut of The Rock as the Scorpion King. To celebrate, a few select theaters are doing re-runs. There’s nothing quite like seeing that CGI Scorpion King on the big screen again, it’s a rite of passage for any movie fan.
Then, we have the 40th anniversary of Stand By Me. This is the ultimate "coming of age" movie. If you haven’t seen it, you’re missing out on one of the greatest stories about friendship ever told. It’s based on a Stephen King story (the non-horror kind), and it still hits just as hard today as it did in 1986.

Streaming Hits: Time Machines and Psychological Thrills
If you’re staying home this weekend, the streaming giants are working overtime to keep you entertained.
Over on Hulu, we’ve got Mike & Nick & Nick & Alice. This sounds like a fever dream, but it’s actually a buddy action comedy starring Vince Vaughn and James Marsden. The plot? Two gangsters and the woman they both love are trying to survive a night from hell. Oh, and there’s a time machine involved. It sounds chaotic, loud, and exactly what we need for a lazy Saturday afternoon binge.
Meanwhile, Apple TV+ is going for the "prestige drama" crown with Imperfect Women. This is a psychological thriller based on the novel by Araminta Hall, and the cast is absolutely elite: Elisabeth Moss, Kerry Washington, and Kate Mara.
The story follows three friends whose lives are upended after a shocking murder. It’s one of those shows where you can’t trust anyone’s perspective, and the secrets just keep piling up. If you loved Big Little Lies or The Undoing, you’re going to be obsessed with this. The first two episodes are out now, with more dropping weekly.

Quick News Bites
Because we know you’re busy, here’s a rapid-fire round of everything else making headlines this week:
- Trailer Drop: The first teaser for the live-action Gargoyles movie supposedly leaked online this morning. If it’s real, it looks much darker and more "Batman-esque" than the 90s cartoon. Fans are already divided, but we’re cautiously optimistic.
- Casting Call: Rumor has it that Florence Pugh is in talks for a major role in the next Star Wars trilogy. Nothing is confirmed yet, but she’s the queen of franchises right now, so it wouldn't surprise us.
- Streaming Moves: Prime Video just added Pretty Lethal, an assassin thriller that was a hit at the indie festivals last year. If you like John Wick style action with a female-led twist, add it to your watchlist.
Why 2026 is the Year of the "Genre Mashup"
Looking at this week’s lineup, it’s clear that Hollywood is leaning hard into mixing things up. We’ve got horror-comedies like They Will Kill You, action-time-travel-comedies like Mike & Nick & Nick & Alice, and sci-fi-mystery-dramas like Project Hail Mary.
It seems like the "standard" action movie or the "standard" scary movie isn't enough for audiences anymore. We want more. We want to be scared one minute and laughing the next. For those of us in the 16-40 age bracket, we’ve grown up with so much content that we need these weird, hybrid stories to keep us on our toes.

What We’re Watching
If you only have time for one thing this weekend, our pick is Project Hail Mary. Ryan Gosling is at the top of his game, and the story is genuinely heartwarming despite being set in the freezing vacuum of space.
But, if you’re feeling a bit more rebellious, go see They Will Kill You. There’s something special about a horror movie that doesn’t take itself too seriously but still manages to make you jump out of your seat.
That’s a wrap for this week’s Screen Scene! Make sure you head over to our store to grab some gear so you can look as cool as a movie star (or at least as cool as a very well-dressed extra). We’ll see you next Friday for another roundup of the best in film and TV.
Stay loud, stay rockin’, and enjoy the show!
